V is for Venison
A meat that is growing in popularity in the United States is venison. Many think immediately of deer when they hear the name venison, but that is not always the case. Venison is a very gamey meat and the name comes from a Latin word that means, “to hunt.”
Venison is actually the meat of any game animal, but is now thought of as deer, moose, reindeer, and elk. In southern areas of Africa, the word venison refers to antelopes. It can be served the same way you eat beef. Many hunters get their deer cut into steaks, roasts, jerky, ground, and mined. Because it is a game meat, it has to be prepared differently because it is tough.
